31 This fascinating documentary film tells the story of British composer Leo Geyer’s eight-year mission to piece together a treasure-trove of forgotten fragments of music manuscripts found in the archives of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum. There were at least six orchestras in Auschwitz, comprised of prisoners from the camp. Before Geyer’s research, little was known about the music they might have played. Follow Leo on this musical journey as he discovers how the musicians rebelled with secret performances, weaving forbidden melodies into concerts. The documentary includes powerful interviews with some of the last remaining survivors and special performances from Leo’s orchestra. Presented in partnership with Koffler Arts is a multi- disciplinary arts platform that celebrates Jewish artistic voices within a diverse and exploratory framework of pan-cultural contemporary expression. www.kofflerarts.org The Lost Music of Auschwitz Afternoon Tunes 2:00 - 3:15 PM LOCATION Bernard Betel Centre 1003 Steeles Avenue West PURCHASE AT JMWEEK.CA/auschwitz TICKETS FREE Registration Required 75 MINUTE FILM
