The Life Cycle
through Yiddish Song
Janie Respitz
Join Janie Respitz as she musically explores life in
the cities and towns of Eastern European Jews. With
beloved popular Yiddish songs as well as some lesser
known gems, Janie takes us from the cradle to cheder;
from courtship and love to marriage and aging.
Rozhinkes mit Mandlen, Oifn Pripitchik, Di Mezinke
Oysgegbn, and Kinder Yorn are just a few of the
nostalgic songs whose plaintive melodies and poetic
Yiddish words reflect every aspect of Jewish life.
Janie Respitz is a Yiddish scholar and entertainer. For
over thirty-five years she has performed in concerts
throughout the world. She has taught courses relating
to Yiddish language, folklore, literature and Eastern
European Jewish history, at Queen’s University, McGill
University, Cummings Jewish Centre for Seniors and
a variety of other learning environments. Janie has
delighted audiences with her vast repertoire of Yiddish
songs and lecture topics, and in 2019, Janie won the
international Yiddish Idol song competition
in Mexico City.
